DIY: Shea Butter Shave Cream

DIY: Shea Butter Shave Cream

The weather is getting warmer, the sun is shining and the days are getting longer... it's about time to show off your skin! We love this shave cream because it smooths, hydrates and protects your skin even as it softens and lifts the hair so it's easier to get a close shave. It's a very simple recipe and Sue-Kate shows us how she puts everything together. (Scroll beneath the video for the full recipe.)

DIY Recipe: Shea Butter Shave Cream

1/2 cup Green Leaf Naturals Raw African Shea Butter

1/4 cup Green Leaf Naturals Aloe Vera Gel

1/4 cup jojoba oil (or other oil of your choice... even olive works)

10 drops lavender oil

Melt the Shea Butter in the double boiler and allow it to cool slightly. Add the Aloe Vera gel and whisk together. Then add the jojoba oil and whisk. Once the mixture has cooled to room temperature, whip in the essential oil.

You can place the finished mixture in the fridge to harden a bit and then whip up until it's very creamy. Store in a closed jar, away from sunlight. If the mixture melts because of the heat in your home, just pop it in the fridge and whip it back up. You can also keep in the fridge, take out 15 minutes before your shower or bath, and bring it into the steamy bathroom with you to soften up.

When you apply this mixture to your body, make sure you massage it in the opposite direction that your hair grows so the individual hairs lift up, making them easier to shave.

I spray on Aloe Vera Spray when I'm done, but you can actually massage more of the shave cream mixture in to the legs when the skin is still damp. This will help lock in moisture and keep your skin hydrated. Bonus: shea butter and aloe vera are great at battling ingrown hairs and razor burn.
